DESCRIPTION:Vinyl night at the Lakely with Matthew R. Sayles of Philville Records! Come down and enjoy some rarities and other eccentricities from Sayles’s personal record collection where he’ll be digging into 45’s and LP’s. The evening will be broken up into three sets of music — hour one will be early string band & rare country music\, hour two will feature a variety of international music\, and the third hour will feature some of Sayles’s favorite LP’s and singles from Motown and R&B legends with some random rock & roll included. \nMatthew R. Sayles is a singer-songwriter\, multi-instrumentalist\, and founder of Philville Records\, an independent label he formed in 2000 in Marquette\, Michigan. Sayles also hosts the weekly open Mic night at the Lakely every Wednesday (except when he’s on tour)\, and has guest hosted as a DJ on The Old Dingy Jukebox (Ventura\, CA)\, a podcast that features deep cuts and obscure records from the deep wellspring of down home American Roots Music. \nSayles has toured nationally and internationally\, and has had the honor of performing with country\, bluegrass\, and western swing legends like Merle Haggard\, Dwight Yoakam\, Asleep at the Wheel\, Larry Sparks\, Doyle Lawson\, the Duhks\, Uncle Earl\, Hot Club of Cowtown\, members of Bob Dylan’s “Rolling Thunder Review” and a long list of other highly talented regional and national roots music performers. \nPhilville Records was located in Ventura\, CA from 2009-2019\, and is now based in Eau Claire\, Wisconsin. Sayles continues to write\, record\, and produce\, as well as perform with his latest project the Driftless Revelers\, Wyatt Thomson\, Kenny Hotopp\, the Ventura based Ventucky String Band\, and his California alt. country project the Detroit Sportsmen’s Congress. He also performs solo and does session work with Eau Claire\, Duluth\, Marquette\, Los Angeles\, Ventura\, Portland and Santa Barbara alt. country and roots music projects.

DESCRIPTION:Garden Party is a folk rock trio who originally met as players in the Ukulele Club of Eau Claire\, finding that their musical ties went deep.  The members include Tom Lockhart on bass\, Teresa Jolivette on ukulele and Marjorie Craemer on Guitar\, with sweet harmony on every song. DESCRIPTION:Wyatt Thomson possesses a voice that echos the soundscapes of the dance halls\, supper clubs\, and road houses that still litter the landscape of his home in the Chippewa Valley of Wisconsin. \n​Citing Tom Waits as his biggest influence\, it’s safe to say that Thomson (Like Waits) seems to have skipped right over decades of music that might have otherwise changed his sound for the worst. \nOne of Thomson’s biggest appeals is that he sounds like an artist transported from the 1950’s honky tonks of the Midwest\, and dropped off into the second decade of the 21st century unscathed by the worst aspects of pop country\, pop music\, and an industry forever changed by technology. \nNot unlike a character from a Roger Miller song\, Thomson has the bona fides of working pawn shops\, odd jobs\, and scraping by in the rust belt landscape of NW Wisconsin. As a result\, he’s gained the street wise and cynical wisdom that is earned young from such a life. \nThe world may press onward with its insane pace\, but Thomson ambles along with a casual confidence and story telling tales that feel like they’re ripped from old paperbacks in a truck stop\, or found in some lost postwar beatnik manuscript.

DESCRIPTION:Patio Sessions is a laid-back seasonal series featuring live music performances and intimate storytelling from local singer-songwriters. This is your front-row ticket to Eau Claire’s creative scene\, paired with the easy ambiance of an evening spent outdoors. Grab a craft cocktail and get ready to lean in and listen. \nJim Nelson is a retired Elementary School teacher\, and a long-time player in the Chippewa Valley music scene. He plays a wide variety of music. The solo and small combo shows consist of singer/songwriter tunes in the spirit of his musical heroes: John Prine\, Neil Young\, Bob Dylan\, and many more lesser-known folksingers. There’s a tendency to lean toward a folky-countryish-bluegrassy-Americana sound. Also in the mix will be a smattering of original songs that fit in well with the cover songs. He has been making music in this area for over twenty years\, and other parts of the state before that. Jim has recorded several CDs full of original music\, available on all of the usual streaming sites. He plays solo gigs\, in a small combo\, and even with several full bands in the western Wisconsin area.

DESCRIPTION:Max Brown is a trombonist\, composer\, and arranger\, who plays music in all styles but mainly focuses on jazz.\nMax is currently based in Chicago Illinois and is working his way into the city’s jazz scene. Before moving to Chicago\, was living in his hometown; Madison Wisconsin and he is still active in the Madison and Milwaukee scenes.\nMax is the band leader of a jazz/original music sextet that has played in venues such as Fulton Street Collective (Chicago IL) and North Street Cabaret in Madison WI. As well as a frequent leader of small groups and sideman in Chicago\, Milwaukee\, and Madison. \nMax has also built a presence in Indiana\, where he spent 6 years from 2017-2023. Earning a Masters of Music in Jazz Studies – trombone from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music (Bloomington IN) where he studied with Wayne Wallace\, John Raymond\, and Tom Walsh. As well as a bachelor’s degree in classical trombone performance from Butler University in Indianapolis.
