Lakely Loves: Wild Rice (Manoomin)

Thursday, October 18, 2018

In his mission to spread the idea of a distinct Upper Midwest style of cuisine, Chef Nathan Berg contends that there is no single more important food/ingredient than “manoomin”, or native-harvested wild rice. Deeply intertwined with the very cultural fabric and history of many of the Anishinaabe peoples, manoomin is an ancient food that is native to these lands – northern Wisconsin, northern Minnesota and southern Ontario. As such, it is a constant on the menus here at The Lakely and we are proud to feature it for this special dinner, which we are offering as a one-of-a-kind opportunity to learn more in-depth about this fascinating and regionally-important food.

Chef Berg will be preparing a six-course dinner, each course of which will feature the remarkable versatility of wild rice. He will speak briefly about his own personal experiences with wild rice and it’s prominence as a cornerstone in Upper Midwestern cuisine. This is a truly one-of-a-kind dinner and educational experience with no small cultural significance. Seating is limited so get your reservations today!

Dinner starts at 6:00pm. Sorry, but we cannot accommodate significant dietary restrictions for these events.

Lakely Loves: Deutsch Family Farm

Thursday, October 18, 2018

Join us as we welcome the family of Jim and Alison Deutsch for our December “Lakely Loves” event! Located just outside of Osseo, Wisconsin, Jim and Alison have been raising magnificent pastured pork at their farm for over a decade. Chef Nathan Berg has been working with them for the majority of that time and The Lakely is proud to feature their high-quality products all over our menus.

For this dinner, Chef Nathan Berg will be creating a six-course dinner which will showcase the delicious quality of the meats raised by the Deutsch Family. This will include many variations of their incredible pork but also some of the grass-fed beef that they are now producing. Jim and Alison will talk about their operation and you’ll get to learn a bit more in detail about this farm that many of you know as a staple of the Downtown Eau Claire Farmers Market. The evening will also include a slideshow of photos from their farm, which includes two of the cutest kids (and one of the cutest dogs) that you’ve ever seen in your life!!

Deutsch Family Farm is one of our main farm suppliers and we are very excited and proud to showcase them for this dinner! Please join us in celebrating one of the farms that makes our region such a hotbed of amazing ingredients!

Dinner starts at 6:30pm. Bar will open at 5:30pm. Sorry, but we cannot accommodate significant dietary restrictions for these events.

Lakely Loves: Far North Spirits

Thursday, October 18, 2018

Join us as we welcome Far North Spirits from Hallock, MN. Far North is one of the many craft distilleries that have come to fruition in the Upper Midwest over the past decade, but they have one big attribute that sets them apart from the bunch: they grow all their own grains right at the farm surrounding the distillery! Only 25 miles from the Canadian border in the Red River valley of northern Minnesota, they maintain 1,000 acres of rich soil where they grow all of the organic wheat, rye and corn, which they then turn into a wide variety of sublime spirits that have a definitive terrior that only a rare few distilleries in the US are able to achieve.

For this dinner, we will be joined by Cheri Reese who, with her husband Michael Swanson, owns and operates Far North Spirits. She will lead our guests through a tasting of many of the distillery’s incredible creations, while also giving a presentation to show off their amazing slice of Earth and the work they perform on it. Meanwhile, Chef Nathan Berg will be crafting a six-course dinner of dishes with the sole intent of highlighting the flavors of their ethereal spirits. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn about one of the most ambitious distilleries in the country, while also enjoying a paired prix-fixe dinner to boot!

Dinner starts at 6:00pm. Bar will open at 5:00pm.

Lakely Loves… Mexican Cuisine

Thursday, October 18, 2018

Once again, Chef Nathan Berg will be letting one of his talented kitchen staff take the wheel for a Lakely Loves. Edgar Ortiz-Rodriguez, who has been in The Lakely kitchen since its opening night, is originally from Mazatlan, in the Mexican state of Sinaloa. For this six-course dinner, he will be drawing heavily from the cuisine of his childhood, creating a menu that features stellar versions of the dishes of the northern Pacific Mexican coast, along with personal favorites from his familia. Sinaloa is known for its seafood, as well as an incredible array of fruits and vegetables that it grows. As an amazing kitchen talent, we’re super excited to see what Edgar comes up with for this cool celebration of his heritage!

The Lakely bar staff will also be whipping up a few specialty cocktails/beverages for the evening that will focus heavily on the ingredients and flavors featured in Sinaloan cuisine. This is definitely a one-of-a-kind dining experience that we’re incredibly excited to offer! This dinner is bound to be a popular one, as it’s not every day that the Lakely turns its attention to cuisines other than the Upper Midwest. You’d better hurry and call The Lakely at 715-559-8553 to reserve your spot right away!!

Dinner starts at 6:00pm. Bar will open at 5:00pm.
